Election Week Calm: Finding Comfort Amid the Chaos
Sharing 7 little ways you can take care of yourself right now
With Election Day only a week away, the stress is really ramping up.I know many of you might be feeling the stress and uncertainty that comes with it, I know I am! So, in true Dinner Party Podcast spirit, here are some gentle self-care tips to keep you grounded, cozy, and calm. Let’s make it through this season together with a little more comfort and connection.
1. Whip Up a Cozy Election Night Menu
Take the stress out of election night by preparing some nourishing comfort food ahead of time. Think of a simple chili or a pot of soup that feels like a warm hug in a bowl. You can relax, eat well, and focus on staying present without the last-minute rush.
2. Turn Your Space into a Peaceful Retreat
Create a little election night oasis! Light one of those fall-scented candles we love, maybe pumpkin or vanilla, toss on a cozy blanket or cozy pajamas. When your space is calm, you’re more likely to feel that way too.
3. Take Media Breaks and Get Lost in a Good Book
Instead of staying glued to the screen, step away and dive into a comforting book. Perhaps pull out a favorite cookbook or decorating book for some inspiration. I like getting lost in Decorating is Fun by Dorothy Draper. This can be can be a lovely distraction from the buzz outside.
4. Try Out A New Recipe with Loved Ones
Invite friends or family to join you in the kitchen for a little bonding time. Try out a new recipe or revisit a favorite I’ve chatted about on Dinner Party Podcast. Sharing food (and maybe wine) can be a wonderful reminder of the connection we have with those closest to us.
5. Lean into ‘Grandma’ Hobbies for Calm
Find a moment of peace in needlepoint, a baking project, or tidying up a cozy reading nook. These soothing activities bring a sense of calm and accomplishment – and who doesn’t need a little more of that?
6. Revisit Past Dinner Party Podcast Episodes
Sometimes, familiar voices and stories can be so comforting. Maybe pull up a past episode where we talked about cozy homemaking tips, recipes, or seasonal inspiration. It’s like a warm, familiar hug, and a reminder of all the simple joys we talk about here.
7. Journal About Your Favorite Traditions
When everything feels a little too much, write down your thoughts about the seasonal traditions you love most in your Decorating by the Book Journal. A warm drink in hand, a cozy corner, and time to reflect on your favorite comfort foods, homemaking ideas, or family memories can really lift your spirits.
I hope these small comforts bring you some peace this election season. Remember, the little routines we create at home can be so grounding. Take care, friends! 🫶
Such good advice, Suzy! There's no question, anxiety is high. Cooking, walking, baking, reading--these activities seem to calm my soul.❤️
